Sinopsis
Clicks, Cuts and Carrots refers to the use of digital technology and elements as simple and organic as a carrot to make music. This documentary explores the creative mechanisms and processes of some of the most important creators of the contemporary music scene. We stayed with the crowd in front of the stages and behind the curtains with the artists. Creators from different places and with different musical interests. Some world-renowned stars like Richie Hawtin or the Beastie Boys, other diamonds in the rough on the experimental scene like The Vegetable Orchestra. However, they have some things in common: they are avant-garde and experiment with sound.
All of them reflect on basic aspects of creative work: motivation, inspiration, construction and staging. Through these four chapters, the documentary guides us through the current panorama of experimental music of our time and the different aspects of creative processes. The creators share their vision for the future of music, which is constantly changing under the influence of technology, industry liberation, public demand and new artistic interests. We see them creating and sculpting their own instruments, composing and re-composing the audio tracks and last but not least, we also see them performing and presenting themselves.
What makes a young symphonic violinist rebel against classical rules? How can a computer geek become a world-famous electronic music DJ? How did you come up with the idea of making instruments out of vegetables and traveling from festival to festival with a group of non-professional musician friends? Can an idea be preserved in a bottle?
This documentary shows the parallels between the dynamics of an international music festival and the dynamics of the creative process.
